Did Frazier estimate poorly in your estimation? Ordid Oswald somehow obtain an approximately 27-inch long lunch bag?4. Explain why Oswald needed to tell the curtain rod story to startwith. Frazier made it clear he had no problem driving Oswald to thePaine's (he was going that way anyway everyday, as he lived nearby), soOswald didn't need to advance a curtain rod excuse. As Frazier said inhis testimony, he told Oswald 'sure, Lee, you can ride with me anytime'(or words to that effect). In other words, the curtain rod story seemsto be a story advanced to bring a long package to work Friday morning,not a story advanced to get a ride Thursday night.

Oswald wasn't a suspect because there was abag in the TSBD with his print on it. He was a suspect because therewas a rifle with his prints on it.So any explanation you advance has to explain away:1. How the rifle got there.2. How his prints got on the rifle.3. Why Oswald lied about owning a rifle.4. Why Oswald choose that particular evening to go home to get a longsack.5. Why Oswald told the curtain rod story to Frazier to start with.6. Why Oswald failed to admit in custody he told Frazier the curtainrod story.7. How Oswald's prints got on the bag found.8. Whether Frazier over-estimated the size of the bag, got itabsolutely correct, or was entirely mistaken about a bag on the backseat.
CURTAIN ROD : How do you know that the curtain rods referenced in the form datedMarch 15, 1964, are the same as the curtain rods "turned over toHowlett" by Ruth Paine on March 23, 1964?The Ruth Hyde Paine / John Joe Howlett deposition at the Paine housein Irving, Texas, started at 7:30 p.m. on March 23, 1964 (IX 396). BothPaine (IX 397) and Howlett (IX 425) were placed under oath. Justbefore Howlett was sworn, Warren assistant counsel Albert E.Jenner, Jr., spied the "butt end" of two curtain rods "peeking up"from a shelf in the Paine basement (IX 424). He had Howlett pick themup and identify them:"Agent HOWLETT. There are two curtain rods, one a white and the othera kind of buff color or cream colored."IX 424. Jenner then had the curtain rods marked by the court reporteras deposition exhibits 275 (cream-colored) and 276 (white colored) (IXat 424-425).
CURTAIN ROD : The Box 8, Folder 1, DPD curtain-rod-custody-record (actually atthe bottom of the Box 7 Web page, at ), shows John Joe Howlettdropped off "2 Curtain Rods - white enamel (4 pcs) marked 275 & 276"on "3-15-64" at "TIME 945a", 9 days before the deposition started. The same record shows John Joe Howlett retrieved the curtain rods on"3-24-64" at "TIME 750a", the morning after the deposition.I could understand if Howlett (or whomever filled it in for hissignature) got the date, "3-15-64," wrong, but the time too? In fact,there could have been no "TIME 945a" in between the March 23, 7:30p.m. deposition, and Howlett's retrieval of the curtain rods on March24 at "TIME 750a." The Box 12, Folder 53, DPD photos of a curtain rod fingerprint aredated "3-25-64," after the deposition, but also after Howlett hadalready retrieved the curtain rods on March 24 at "TIME 750a." Thatseems strange, since the curtain-rod-custody-record itself makesreference to fingerprint examinations as having already occurred bythe time Howlett retrieved the curtain rods. The last record in theBox 12, Folder 53, curtain rod series, doesn't appear to have a dateactually written on to it, but does appear to show a fingerprint inthe bottom right corner.

Idon't see any problem with the curtain rod story. He may very well havewanted to change the window to an upper/lower curtain arrangement. Or, ifthe rod was bent before the police search (which is really the issue I amraising when I say "show me the photo"), he may have wanted to replace itfor that reason alone. So, whether or not he already had curtains ismeaningless to me.
