DRAPERY ROD : Even being unemployed, I haven't had as much time to devote to finishing the home decorating as I'd like. But I've made a little progress recently.I *finally* unpacked the boxes in my study/office! I had thot I'd paint the unfinished-for-10-yrs bookcase that holds everything in those boxes. But last wkend I said "f**k it", brought the still-&-eternally-unfinished bookcase in & unpacked all the damn books. That cleared up a bunch of space in here (the study is where my computer is & I spend most of my day in here). Again, a deadline actually had to loom for me to do it -- in 2 wks, a friend is staying over & my study is the default guest room, once there was enough space cleared to put out the air mattress (someday we'll get a futon & I'll have the fancy lil' guestroom of my Monica-from-Friends dreams ;-). I also cleaned up my desk & file cabinets, which badly needed it. And sorted thru the closet in here, which had lots of junk that should've been stored in the garage anyways. Now I can get to all the stuff I need to sell on eBay soon!
DRAPERY ROD : Better still, my husband sprung for bedroom curtains. I'd had some black velvet panels on order from Newport News, but they kept getting back-ordered & finally were cancelled. So we went to Bed, Bath, & Beyond & found nice, heavy, non-see-thru, dark purple velvet panels for $50 each. We got a black iron curtain rod w/pointy arrow-like finials too (our canopy bed is black iron). I put them up last nite -- finally replacing the hideous white vertical blinds that came w/the house & let light stream thru the sliding glass door into our bedroom at dawn. This morning, w/the new curtains, we could finally sleep in! The dark purple is actually a better choice than black -- it's still very dark, but a bit warmer in feel than black, & it subtly coordinates w/the purple metallic brocade canopy from India, black velvet comfortor, & dark purple tone-on-tone striped sheets. Still need to put stuff on the walls, but the bedroom looks much better now. DRAPERY ROD : Lastly at Bed, Bath, & Beyond, we bought a new shower curtain. The old one had torn down, so we needed a replacement. And my hubbi agreed that a fabric curtain would look better. So we got one in a burgundy marbelized pattern accented w/green, black, & gold marbelized patterns (it's a fairly common pattern avail. at lots of stores). I thot it might look cheezy, but it looks FAB-U-LOUS. I'm amazed at how such a simple thing totally revitalizes this standard, ugly bathroom. Now I want to marbelize the whole damn room! Can't, of course, since it's a rental. But still, a simple shower curtain does wonders.. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Trystan L. We rent, too, soI'm a little hesitant to take the blinds down completely. Although Iguess it couldn't be that hard to put them back up when/if we move.(We may buy the place at some point, but that's not for sure yet.)I'm sure it would make a HUGE difference in the look and feel of thebedroom. Then maybe I would get around to having all the printsframed that I want to hang in there. Then they are much easier to put back up whenyou end your lease. =) You can easily cover the hardware withyour curtains.Sounds pretty! *whispers in your ear* Do it... take the blinds down. I was so happy when I took down the ones abovemy bed, although so far I've only hung a sarong over thewindow.
